AYRJ strives to be open and accessible to all. To that end, we detail our editorial process, criteria for submission, and guidelines for reviewers here.

Submission Content Requirements
To keep AYRJ accessible to student authors, we place no requirements on a manuscript's field of study or the magnitude of its impact. We ask only that manuscripts be factually accurate and present novel work that does not duplicate research already published in the literature.
If your work was produced under the guidance of a mentor, you should disclose this. Mentors who contributed substantially to the work may be listed as co-authors; otherwise, you may thank them in an acknowledgements section.
Submission Format Requirements
Manuscripts should be written in English and kept as free from grammatical and typographical errors as possible. Format your manuscript plainly, in a single column and in a legible font. Ensure that your manuscript clearly states the title, abstract and the names of all authors.

Editorial Process
Preprint preparation
After authors submit their manuscript to the ASEAN Young Researchers' Journal (AYRJ), our editors assess it against our criteria for publication. Manuscripts that meet these criteria are then proofread for grammatical and typographical errors, and our editors reserve the right to make minor edits to ensure consistency and correctness in tone and language.
Our editors also verify that every citation in the manuscript is available and relevant. We may contact the authors to request supplementary citations, or to clarify any that cannot be readily accessed.
Once a manuscript clears this initial round of editing, it is typeset and sent to the authors for approval. The authors should confirm that every edit remains faithful to their original intent.
Preprint Publication
Once the authors have approved the typeset manuscript, we publish it on this website as a preprint. From submission to preprint publication, the process typically takes about a month.
Peer Review
A preprint enters peer review if no issues are brought to our attention within one week of its publication. We consult at least two external, independent experts in the relevant field, and the authors should continue to revise the preprint until the reviewers raise no further concerns.

Article Publication
When a preprint passes peer review, its status on this website changes from preprint to published article, and the disclaimer noting that the work has not yet been peer reviewed is removed.
For Reviewers
Every preprint on AYRJ is peer reviewed by at least two external, independent experts before it is published as an article. We first contact relevant subject experts to invite them to review, and typically ask that comments be returned within three weeks.
The editors of AYRJ deeply appreciate the effort our peer reviewers put in to ensure the accuracy of the journal. Papers written by students may not be as polished as professional research, but the willingness of field experts to lend their time allows our authors, regardless of their background, to experience the research process in full. We firmly believe that our reviewers' contributions will inspire the next generation of bright young minds in their fields.
Guidelines for Reviewers
Be objective — Please declare any conflict of interest that could prevent you from judging a preprint fairly, and decline our invitation to review if you believe you cannot be fully impartial.
Guaranteed anonymity — Your identity as a reviewer is kept strictly confidential. AYRJ will never disclose it to the authors unless you explicitly ask us to.
Please assess preprints on two criteria only:
- Factual accuracy — the content is correct, and the conclusions drawn are plausible given the information presented.
- Novelty — the work does not duplicate any existing publication.
Constructive comments — Our authors are students who may lack experience in your field, and we ask for your patience when reviewing their work. Please keep all comments constructive and courteous.
Sharing of work — Because preprints are already publicly available, you are free to keep or share them. However, we ask that you keep all comments provided to the authors strictly confidential.
